Ramblings!

There are a lot of meetings for school! The reason I don't blog more is because my mind seems to always be working on my art lessons for my elementary students. I love to visit my artist friends' blogs. They are so very positive and I am happy they are producing such wonderful art. I, too shall create more art, but it won't be today! My art students are very dear and they have painted some awesome still lifes (among other things.) We will have a big show next spring for the whole community of Fargo and every Fargo art student will have an art work in the show. The show will be called "Art@UP" and will be held at the Urban Plains Center that will be finished with its hockey season by next April. As an art teacher I can show a piece as well so I guess I had better get myself motivated to paint!

Yikes..School's about to start!!

My summer has been great. It went by way too fast. I got a few new paintings done and participated in the 10th Annual 8th Street Art Show & Sell and took a workshop by Rose Edin in June. Good to get painting again! I also took several education classes in order to get back in the swing of teaching art this fall. Now it's time to get my teaching schedule figured out. Wednesday through Friday at Washington is done (fingers crossed that no changes need to happen!,) but my new school this year is McKinley and I don't have a schedule there yet. School will start whether the schedule is done or not, I guess!!!

School's Out!

This is my first day of summer vacation. It still holds the same joy that it did when I was a student. I am going to get my paints out and see what colors I need to buy. This is very exciting!! First I need to do some ordinary stuff-grocery shopping, laundry. Perhaps there's a way to make that exciting too.

Time Marches On

Tomorrow morning I will wake up my daughter at 6:30 and sing my ridiculous "It's Friday!" song. It will be her last day of classes in high school.

Red River Flood

Fargo/Moorhead has been battling a massive flood for the past week. My daughter and I have been sandbagging. It is an exhausting activity. Yesterday the sand bags were quite heavy and the sand in some of them was frozen. It was like flinging 40 pound turkeys at a rate of one every second or two! My left wrist is complaining today and I am no good for more sandbagging. Luckily, most of the sandbagging is complete.

We are now waiting for the Red River to crest and begin going down. My house is about 11 blocks from the river and in a fairly high part of Fargo, but in preparation I have brought items up from my basement and have plugged the main floor drain.

Our community is fortunate to have three colleges with students who have volunteered their good muscle power. High school students have stepped up to the plate as well. What an amazing effort with thousands of volunteers. After receiving an automated call from the city to our neighborhood last night, my daughter sandbagged from about 11:30pm to 3:30 this morning. I am very proud of her. It was her fourth day of volunteering.

If anyone reads this, say a prayer for folks along the Red River of the North.
