Visual Thinkers

My fifth grade art students are redesigning objects as a "Form versus Function" assignment. Their creative thinking is inspiring! Guiding them through this lesson is exciting and the time flies. Some things they are redesigning include a cool school binder, a rainbow pen, snow pants with a warming system and a deer stand.

A first attempt

I have much to say and I have nothing to say. Hmmm, a bit of Dickens is influencing my first attempt at blogging!
Here are some of the things on my mind today:
-Politics! We deserve a president and vice president who are very intelligent.
I am nervous about how close the race is.
-NCLB-No Child Left Behind...I am so tired of hearing about how our students are falling behind and that they need to "compete in the global economy." Seems that the only way we will know if they can compete is to have them continually filling in the correct bubble on the standardized tests. Yikes!! I teach art and wonder if some of the innovative thinkers are thinking outside the bubble.
-Clutter! I have a life-long battle with it and so far, I am not winning.
-Exercise- I have been walking through the park with a friend almost every day. Thirty to forty minutes of a brisk walk is not something I thought I would ever get into, but so far it has been a good activity.
-Making a difference- This is something I am continually striving to do. I am hoping that most of the differences I make are positive ones. I don't think much of anything stays the same. Things either get better or worse. I'm shooting for better.
